What Is Torchlight: Infinite Afterlight?
Torchlight: Infinite Afterlight turns a nighttime procession into a moving battle for loot, with restless Wraiths threatening its path. Clearing those enemies keeps the procession moving, making your ability to handle surrounding packs part of the encounter's pace. Torchlight: Infinite Afterlight also introduced Selena's Dance of the Deep, new Divinity Slate possibilities, and a timed endgame challenge.
Afterlight launched on July 16. With Tartarus launching on October 16, Afterlight moves into the core game and gains its own Talent Constellation. That distinction matters when you're choosing a build or returning after a break: the procession remains relevant, while the seasonal systems around it have moved forward.
| Feature | Afterlight season introduction | October 16 Tartarus update |
|---|---|---|
| Afterlight encounters | Guiding Lantern procession with Wraiths and special encounters | Afterlight becomes core content |
| Encounter specialization | Seasonal gameplay and dedicated Pactspirit setup | Afterlight gains a Talent Constellation |
| Nether King's Divinity | New Divinity Slate progression and branding | Drops become more frequent and exchange becomes available |
| Supreme Showdown | Season-specific boss challenges | Star's Fall mechanic and rotating boss lineup |
Read older build plans with their season in mind. In particular, evaluate Nether King's Divinity purchases around its increased availability and exchange options in Tartarus. A crafting plan built around Afterlight's original item supply deserves another look before you spend your Flame Elementium.
How the Afterlight Procession Works
The central Torchlight: Infinite Afterlight encounter follows the Guiding Lantern's procession. Wraiths gather along its route, and defeating pursuing enemies helps the procession move faster. Relics and loot appear along the way, with special encounters adding variety to individual runs.

This gives you a straightforward combat priority: keep clearing the enemies around the procession. Your damage coverage matters because the encounter asks you to deal with surrounding packs while moving through the map.
| Encounter element | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Pursuing Wraiths | Enemies attack along the procession's route | Clear nearby packs to maintain its pace |
| Golden reward monsters | Special reward enemies can appear | Watch for them during the moving fight |
| Special coffins | Coffins add another encounter variation | Keep an eye on the route as you advance |
| Revived Wraiths and mysterious bosses | Additional threats can interrupt the procession | Maintain room to move while handling the encounter |
Loot can drop during the journey. Check the route before leaving rather than assuming everything will arrive in one reward pile at the finish.
Keep the Fight Moving
Use these priorities when running the procession:
- Clear the surrounding enemies. Their deaths help the procession advance faster.
- Watch for encounter variations. Golden monsters, coffins, revived enemies, and bosses deserve your attention.
- Collect valuable drops along the route. Leave yourself time to recover anything dropped behind you.
- Review your encounter setup. Afterlight's move into core content adds its own Talent Constellation to consider.
The Afterlight season also introduced a dedicated seasonal Pactspirit combination. Encounter-related drops used that combination, reducing the need to switch away from the Pactspirits serving the rest of your map.
For the original seasonal setup, configure that combination before entering the level. Keep its role separate from your general mapping setup when comparing rewards.
Selena's Dance of the Deep and Terra Builds
Selena's Dance of the Deep is the hero trait closely associated with Torchlight: Infinite Afterlight. It centers on Terra skills, allowing the Crimson Tide to travel with her and changing how ground-based damage fits into movement.

That creates a different rhythm from repeatedly placing a damage area and leaving it behind. With Selena, movement becomes part of keeping your Terra pressure near enemies.
The Afterlight update added five Terra skills and expanded the category beyond its earlier emphasis on damage over time. Hit-based options, lightning interactions, and meteor barrages gave Terra builds more directions to explore.
| Terra option | Supported mechanic | Build interaction to examine |
|---|---|---|
| Nether Grass | Pulls enemies toward its center and eliminates low-health enemies | Enemy grouping and execution |
| Lightning-based Terra | Connects lightning between targets, with interactions involving the player and minions | Available connection targets |
| Fallen Star | Drops a barrage of meteors | Hit damage and Spell Burst interactions |
| Dance of the Deep | Lets Selena's Crimson Tide move with her | Damage coverage while moving |
Match Your Scaling to Your Skill
Choose your main Terra skill before buying specialized equipment. A meteor barrage and a damage-over-time setup ask different questions about your damage scaling.
For a hit-based Terra build, examine its Spell Burst interactions and supporting legendary effects. For a damage-over-time build, keep your investment focused on the damage your chosen skill actually deals.
Selena's trait development also uses a more flexible tree arrangement than a simple sequence of paired choices. Her options include interactions with curses, duration, Reap, and Spell Burst, allowing different ways to shape the same broad Terra concept.
Build around a specific interaction. If you want to use Reap, examine the duration-related options alongside it. If your lightning setup uses minions as connection targets, include that interaction when planning your skill arrangement.
Look Beyond a Hero's Popularity
Avoid choosing a starter solely from a character's position in an old ranking. A hero can support several builds with different equipment demands, and the Afterlight-to-Tartarus transition changes the surrounding progression systems.
Compare the actual skill setup, required items, and defensive plan before committing. For Selena, decide whether you want moving damage coverage, meteor hits, lightning connections, or a damage-over-time approach. That choice gives your gearing a clearer purpose than copying a hero name.
Nether King's Divinity and Progression Changes
Torchlight: Infinite Afterlight introduced Nether King's Divinity as another way to develop your Divinity Slate arrangement. The system lets you brand Divine Remnants, cultivate different Divinity forms, and use effects including Judgment, Contamination, and Banishment.

Slate shape and placement matter alongside individual effects. The Afterlight version introduced additional shapes and interactions involving nearby slates, opening more possibilities for arranging your board.
Inspect a Divinity's effect and placement requirements before replacing an existing piece. An appealing modifier still needs to work within your complete slate arrangement.
| System | Change introduced with Afterlight | Practical action |
|---|---|---|
| Nether King's Divinity | New slate forms, branding, and special effects | Plan the board around the effects you want to combine |
| Lunaria | Becomes core content with streamlined progression | Revisit its farming and crafting options |
| Renewed Memory | Becomes permanent in a simplified form | Update older memory-crafting plans |
| Dream Interpretation | Retired | Replace plans that depend on its former effects |
| Nether King's Divinity in Tartarus | More frequent drops and exchange options | Recheck acquisition options before committing currency |
Build the Arrangement Before Chasing the Roll
Start with the interaction you want from your slates. Then examine the shapes, neighboring positions, and branding effects needed to support it.
This keeps your spending tied to a complete setup. Buying an impressive piece without checking how it fits can leave you rearranging several other slates afterward.
Tartarus changes the acquisition side of this system: Nether King's Divinity drops more often and can be exchanged. Check those options before repeating a farming plan designed for the original Afterlight season.
Revisit Older Crafting Assumptions
Afterlight brought Lunaria into the core game and simplified related progression. It also made Renewed Memory permanent in streamlined form and retired Dream Interpretation.
Review any older build that depends on those systems. Match the equipment effects and crafting steps to the season you're playing before investing in the finished setup.
Tartarus adds another relevant memory change: Memory Revival results can be rerolled. Include that option when reviewing your current memory progression.
Divine Ascent and Everyday Improvements
Divine Ascent gave Torchlight: Infinite Afterlight a timed challenge built around climbing floors. Each floor puts you against a three-minute timer, with enemies, random events, and a boss standing between you and a clear.
The mode offers first-clear rewards and two ranking tracks: First Clear Rankings and Infinity Rankings. During Afterlight, it replaced City Defense for the season.
The timer makes movement, pack clearing, and boss damage part of the same test. Prepare for all three when adjusting your character.
- Maintain damage while moving. Keep your chosen skill's coverage in mind as you navigate.
- Preserve boss damage. Include the floor boss when evaluating changes made for faster clearing.
- Watch random events. Leave yourself time to handle the floor's additional demands.
- Check your defenses. Keep survival in the plan while improving clear speed.
Reduce Friction Between Runs
Afterlight also introduced several useful interface improvements: broader Trade House price checking, Quick Buy, one-tap skill leveling, cursor sizing, and separate brightness and transparency controls.
Quick Buy requires a price cap on your search. Set that limit before using it, particularly when purchasing repeated supplies.
Use the effect controls to adjust visibility around your character and enemies. Terra effects, minions, and dense fights can put plenty on screen; tune the available transparency and brightness settings around the attacks you need to see.
One-tap skill leveling reduces repeated menu work, while cursor sizing gives you another way to keep track of your position during busy fights.
Returning During Tartarus
For a current Torchlight: Infinite Afterlight farming plan, account for its core Talent Constellation and the updated Divinity economy. Tartarus also adds Trade House condition filters and preset sharing, plus favorites and presets for compasses and map materials.
Set up those presets around the content you intend to run. Recheck your slate options, review your memory progression, and adjust visibility before settling into repeated maps.
Download or return through the Torchlight: Infinite Steam page, then build your setup around the current season's systems.
